Why We Love a First Look

There’s something undeniably magical about that moment when a couple sees each other for the first time on their wedding day. And while tradition might suggest waiting until the walk down the aisle, more and more couples are choosing to share a private “first look” before the ceremony — and we’re so here for it.

Here’s why we absolutely love a first look (and why you might, too)

1.

A Quiet Moment Together

Wedding days can fly by in a blur, and private moments can be hard to come by. A first look gives you a chance to pause, breathe, and just be with each other before the whirlwind begins. It’s intimate, emotional, and often one of the only moments you’ll spend alone together all day.

2.

Authentic Reactions

Without the pressure of a full audience, couples are often more open and expressive during a first look. Whether it’s happy tears, laughter, or a tight embrace, these moments are raw and real — and some of our absolute favorite photos to capture.

3.

Eases Pre-Ceremony Nerves

Seeing your person before the ceremony can help calm those butterflies. Many couples say they instantly feel more relaxed and present after their first look — ready to take on the day together.

4.

More Time for Photos

Doing a first look allows us to capture not just that emotional reveal, but also your couple portraits, wedding party photos, and sometimes even family photos before the ceremony. This frees up your timeline post-ceremony so you can get to cocktail hour or your reception faster — and enjoy more time with your guests.

5.

It Doesn’t Take Away from the Aisle Moment

One of the biggest hesitations we hear is: “Will it ruin the moment when I walk down the aisle?” Our honest answer? Not at all. That moment is still incredibly powerful — the music, the anticipation, the emotion of everyone gathered to witness your vows. If anything, it becomes even more meaningful because you’ve already had your personal time together.

Every couple is different, and there’s no one “right” way to structure your day. But if you’re even slightly considering a first look, we always recommend talking it through. It just might end up being your favorite moment of the day — and we’ll be there to capture every second of it.
